Seeking a VP of Operational Real Estate Accounting
 

Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead and manage corporate, property, development and construction accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, compliance, OSPS and NDAA departments. Establish and implement department goals, directives, objectives
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and reporting for property, development, construction and corporate entities. Maintain the general ledger, journal entries, and chart of accounts.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams, develop succession plans, mentor, and develop best practices. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and scalability
  • Build and scale accounting infrastructure to support rapid growth, including systems, processes, and talent development
  • Manage relationships with various Corporate departments, including accounting, treasury, risk management, human resources and shared services. Responsible for corporate-related accounting inquiries
  • Support long-range planning and the company’s strategic and tactical initiatives
  • Delegate operational tasks, focusing on strategic oversight and exception approval

Accounting Functions

  • Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes; ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare financial statements and other monthly reports to include loan draw packages for accuracy and completeness. Ensure timely and accurate completion of close processes by deadlines imposed by corporate, as well as the company’s business agreements
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Evaluate accounting pronouncements and their effect on financial statements and ensure required changes are made
  • Research and document complex or unusual accounting transactions and treatment of new accounting principles
  • Maintains corporate schedules supporting guarantees, unit counts, and other loan compliance as required
  • Ensure compliance with current and future corporate accounting policies, including equity, intercompany, subledgers, debt policies and others, as required
  • Ensure timely funding of P3 project waterfalls and debt service payments for all loan obligations
  • Oversee Accounts Payable and OSPS teams. Collaborate with VP Disbursements to establish effective processes and controls related to purchase orders and invoices
  • Develop and manage billing methodologies and mechanisms to recapture property-level expenses. Lead and manage billback process for payroll and other certain expenses
  • Manage the billing process and confirm receipt of NDAA 606(a)(1) and NDAA 606(a)(2) funds from the federal government. Ensure www.SAM.gov entities and related accounts are maintained and renewed on a timely basis
  • Respond to ad hoc financial and accounting data requests from executive leadership, auditors and stakeholders

Budgeting Responsibilities

  • Own corporate budgeting process. Lead the development, coordination, and consolidation of annual corporate budgets. Partner cross-functionally with department heads to gather inputs and align assumptions
  • Establish corporate budget frameworks. Define timelines, templates, targets and methodologies to ensure consistency and accountability. In coordination with the FP&A team, produce monthly, quarterly and annual actionable financial insights for decision making to enable course-correction based on economic or operational realities
  • In coordination with Operations and Asset Management, prepare annual property budgets. Ensure accuracy and proper input into the company’s reporting system

Audit & Compliance

  • Responsible for audits, including managing relationships with internal stakeholders and independent auditors
  • Lead compliance department to ensure operational compliance with policies and procedures. Identify and correct control deficiencies.

Systems Modernization & Process Transformation

  • Lead modernization of accounting processes, controls, and systems, including the transition from JD Edwards to Workday
  • Ensure forecasting tools and ERP systems are integrated and aligned with the chart of accounts and reporting structures. Lead ERP optimization, digital reporting transformation, and automation strategies.

Acquisitions

  • Lead pre-acquisition accounting due diligence and risk review and post-acquisition financial integration
