Engineering Manager- Mechanical

Job Purpose: Under general direction of the Director of Engineering, the Engineering Manager – Mechanical is responsible for leading engineering teams to design, develop, and deliver technical projects on time and within budget, while fostering professional growth through mentorship. The Engineering Manager sets technical standards, manages project roadmaps, and collaborates with cross-functional teams. This position is also responsible for delivering high-quality products, defining best practices, managing resource allocation, and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for hiring, developing, training, coaching, managing, and leading the Project Engineering team
- Conducts regular 1-on-1s, performance reviews, and career development planning while fostering professional growth and a high-performance team
- Responsible for reporting department and project progress, routinely and/or as requested
- Defines project milestones and allocates resources effectively, while meeting quality standards
- Oversees project lifecycles, from design and development to testing and implementation, ensuring deliverables are on time and within budget
- Acts as the technical expert for the team, resolving complex issues and ensuring technical accuracy
- Oversees system architecture, design reviews, and the implementation of emerging technologies
- Establishes and enforces engineering standards, SOPs, design review cadence, deliverable templates, and document control practices to ensure consistent, repeatable execution
- Responsible for creating and communicating technical roadmaps and project status to senior management, clients, and cross-functional teams as required
- Collaborates with other management teams to align engineering efforts with company goals
- Continually manages and reports on resource allocation, team capacity, and project budgets
- Responsible for ensuring all products meet quality standards and regulatory compliance
- Implements engineering KPIs (quality, schedule adherence, rework, vendor drawing cycle time) and drives continuous improvement
- Serves as Engineer of Record as needed, including oversight of sealed calculations/drawings and ensuring appropriate design documentation for permitting and regulatory compliance
- Travel as necessary, with the ability to obtain a Passport to travel outside the United States
- These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive, and other duties may be assigned
Skills & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience leading an engineering team
- Minimum of 10 years of experience working in engineering
- Valid Mechanical Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to bridge business objectives and technical execution
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Ability to be process-driven and results-oriented with a focus on delivering results
- Strong decision-making abilities and capacity to lead cross-functional teams
- Proven strong ethical standards and high levels of integrity
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and guide teams
- Knowledge of project management principles, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk management
- Excellent communication, reporting, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams at all levels, clients, and stakeholders, with the ability to articulate technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with packaged equipment, skids, vendor integration, and drawing review processes
- Strong knowledge of piping design, materials, stress/pipe support philosophy, and constructability
- Familiarity with applicable codes/standards (as relevant): ASME (B31.x / VIII), API, NFPA, etc.
- Experience driving IFC-quality deliverables and stage-gate reviews (30/60/90/IFC)
- Experience with MOC, design change control, and field issue resolution (RFI/submittals)
- Proven ability to manage engineering schedules/budgets and coordinate with Procurement / Construction / Commissioning
